Analysis method and limits

Badmi estimates pose for seven recorded techniques. Six stroke analyses locate contact and apply technique-specific rules; ready stance reads stance width, knee flexion, and torso position from stable frames. Each analysis emits up to three structured findings. AI explains those results without live coaching, overall scores, or injury diagnosis.

How Badmi turns a recorded clip into pose metrics and structured issues — and what it explicitly does not measure or claim.

This page describes current product behavior, not a roadmap. Numbers and thresholds come from Badmi’s existing analysis rules and will be updated when product behavior changes.

Pipeline steps

  1. Run quality gates for duration, fps, orientation, and landmark visibility.
  2. Use automatic detection or the user-selected technique to load its detector and filming rules.
  3. Locate an overhead or swing contact for strokes; choose representative stable values for ready stance.
  4. Compute technique-defined metrics and suppress values made unreliable by angle or occlusion.
  5. Apply technique-specific thresholds and emit up to three structured findings.
  6. Have AI explain the existing issues and filming warnings.

Technique-specific metrics and engineering thresholds

Forehand smashContact height < 0.15 torso ratio, elbow < 150°, knee extension < 160°Shuttle speed, placement, or winner quality
Forehand clearContact height < 0.18, elbow < 155°, knee extension < 155°Whether the shuttle reaches the back line
Forehand dropContact height < 0.12, elbow < 145°Whether the preparation actually deceives an opponent

Net shotContact height > 0.05, elbow > 170°, knee angle > 170°Racket-face quality for spins, crosses, or tumbles
DriveContact outside −0.08 to 0.12, elbow < 145°, knee extension < 150°A flat trajectory or fast shuttle
Ready stanceWidth < 1.0 or > 2.5 body widths, knee drop < 0.18 leg length, torso offset > 0.22 body widthsReaction speed or first-step timing

Explicit non-goals

  • No live mid-rally coaching.
  • No invented absolute technique score.
  • No wrist-snap, racket-face, or racket-head-speed measurement.
  • No current structured issues for body rotation or swing timing.
  • No reaction-timing judgment from a static ready-stance clip.
  • No injury diagnosis and no substitute for a licensed coach or clinician.
